Subject: Encarta MIDI files
Actually these files are scored as to the WDS standard (no redundancy, the
S stands for setup). There are some crappy, low polyphony base standard
tracks (13,14,15 and 16 for percs), and the extended channels (1-9, 10 percs)
are your usual MIDI channels. This is because with Windows, Sound Blasters
and friends suddenly became MIDI devices.
I usually run my synth at General MIDI (1-16 on, 10 percs), but I always
have an extended level setup for these tunes. If I want to put them into my
jukebox, I just edit them with MRS and nuke the tracks playing to channels
over 10.
HTH,
Yossi.
